Emotron supplies onshore power in Visby harbour

Onshore Power Supply, or shore-to-ship power, is a key element of a smart port’s agenda.

By connecting to land-based power while at berth, ships are able to turn off their engines, bringing emissions down. This also creates a better environment by reducing pollution, noise and vibrations.

"Our assignment from the Port of Visby and Actemium was to deliver 2x 1.8MW, 10.7 kV, and 60Hz to three different quays where Destination Gotland will connect its ferries operating traffic between Gotland and the Swedish mainland." says Tedi Burtanovic, Project Engineer at CG Emotron.

In this project, we have been the supplier to System integrator Actemium, who has many years of experience in delivering complete solutions for Onshore Power Supply and have built several shore connection plants, both in Sweden and abroad.

Our part of the contract was supplying the power conversion equipment consisting of a frequency converter in low harmonic execution and a cooling system for the installation. It was important that the software included could balance voltage load during synchronization to ship and be able to handle rapid load changes on the ship.
